WASHINGTON — As a light snow cleared out of the D.C. region on Tuesday morning, gusty winds began to move in. Wind chills will plummet into the teens and wind gusts may reach 40 mph. “It’s already brisk out there this morning, the winds are going to continue to increase,” Storm Team 4 meteorologist Lauryn Ricketts said. Below is a look at current wind gusts in mph throughout the area.

A light snow on Tuesday morning lead to some public school systems in Maryland and one in Virginia to open two hours late. The snow was a low-impact event but roads could still be slippery in some areas. In Maryland, Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Carroll County, Howard County, Montgomery County and Frederick County public schools will open two hours late because of the snow. In Virginia, Spotsylvania County Public Schools will open two hours late. In Loudoun County, Virginia, and Germantown, Maryland, snow stuck to grassy patches and cars while roads are just wet. Slick spots are still possible, however. [custom_gallery] There could be more snow on the way later in the week. Thursday’s temperatures will be mild and near the 50s, but temperatures will drop overnight, creating another chance for snow on Friday. Although this chance of snow is right on the line, the precipitation could complicate Friday morning’s commute. Here’s a look at the latest forecast: Tuesday: Light rain or snow ends before noon. Winds pick up after the snow. Highs: Mid to upper 30s. Tuesday night: Clear, breezy and cold. Wind chills in the teens. Lows: 15-23 degrees. Wednesday: Cold with a light breeze.
