WASHINGTON — A former football coach at a private school in Alexandria was arrested Tuesday and charged with online solicitation of a girl in Middlesex County, Virginia.

Richard B. Allison Jr. was arrested at his Alexandria home on 19 felony charges including attempted indecent liberties with children and using a computer to facilitate the offense.

Allison was the equipment manager and one of the coaches at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School since 1999, according to Jennifer Desautels, a spokeswoman for the school.

He has been fired and banned from the school.

According to Major Michael Sampson with the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office, Allison had been contacting an undercover investigator with the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children task force posing as a young girl.

Through messages exchanged between Allison and the person he thought was the girl, investigators determined that Allison intended to meet.

Middlesex County lies about 40 miles east of Richmond.

As a result of the charges, a similar task force in Northern Virginia has opened a separate investigation.

Allison was being held without bond at the Middle Peninsula Security Center in Saluda, Virginia.
