WASHINGTON — A Fairfax County resident found a foot in the backyard Saturday.

It happened on the 5900 block of Brunswick Street in Springfield. A resident called Fairfax County police to report possible human remains in the property.

Police saw a partially decomposed human foot that was later verified by the medical examiner’s office. They are not yet clear what race or gender is associated with the foot.

Police searched other yards in the area for other potential remains but found only bones that appear to be from an animal. The investigation is ongoing.
