WASHINGTON — Extreme cold conditions for the D.C. region aren’t only making residents shake and shiver, they’re also causing mechanical issues for commuter trains.

As of about 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, the 6:45 a.m. MARC Train 413 from Baltimore to Washington and the 7:20 a.m. Train 408 from Washington to Baltimore have been canceled.

The 7:10 a.m. 406 train from Washington to Baltimore will hold to depart at 7:20 a.m. due to the cancellation of the 408.

The Maryland Department of Transportation said the cancellations are due to mechanical problems experienced Tuesday evening from the extreme cold weather conditions but they aim to keep service going despite the deep freeze.

Updates to Wednesday afternoon and evening services will be provided by 2 p.m., MDOT said.
