WASHINGTON — Grocery store Giant is voluntarily recalling bags of its store-brand frozen corn due to potential Listeria contamination.

The voluntary recall announced Wednesday applies to 16-oz bags of Giant brand frozen whole kernel sweet corn with a UPC of 68826700676 and a best-by date of October 2019.

Giant Food said it has received no reports of illnesses so far.

Listeria is a type of bacteria found in nature that can sometimes cause an uncommon but potentially fatal disease called listeriosis. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. The infection is more serious in people with weakened immune systems and can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

Customers should throw out the corn and bring their receipt to any store for a refund, the company said.
