Two University of Maryland students hurt in College Park shooting

WASHINGTON — One person was shot and another one assaulted in College Park Saturday night. It happened around 8:30 p.m. on the 7500 block of Rhode Island Avenue, an area that is predominantly off-campus housing for University of Maryland students. The male victims were taken to a hospital and treated for nonlife threatening injuries. They are University of Maryland students. Police are searching for the suspects, whose last know direction of travel was toward a Metro stop.

Parents of former Maryland football player killed in 2024 car crash start foundation in his honor

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — The parents of former Maryland football player Isaiah Hazel have launched a foundation in his memory after he was killed in a car crash two years ago. At a launch event on campus, the Isaiah Lee Hazel Foundation awarded its first Isaiah Lee Hazel Memorial Scholarship to walk-on defensive lineman Joshua Simmons to help cover meal expenses during the school year.
