Donna Edwards announces Pr. George’s Co. executive candidacy

WASHINGTON — The field of contenders for Prince George’s County Executive has grown. Former Maryland Rep. Donna Edwards has announced she’s running. Edwards joins the list of candidates hoping to succeed Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker. Baker, who is term-limited, is running for governor. The Democratic race for county executive pits Edwards against Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks, who — like Edwards, announced her candidacy on social media.

The entrance of Edwards into the race could force a hard choice for voters in Prince George’s County; both women are African American, have strong name recognition and are popular among county residents. Also in the running for the office of county executive are former Obama administration official Paul Monteiro and Maryland State Senator Anthony Muse.
