1 dead in Fairfax Co. office building shooting

WASHINGTON — A man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a Fairfax County office building Wednesday afternoon.

John Francis Wood, 52, of Vienna, Virginia, fired multiple rounds at an office building located at 8111 Gatehouse Road in Falls Church around 5 p.m., said Fairfax County police Chief Ed Roessler. Wood was found dead, Roessler added.

Police later added that the Wood died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The office building houses a daycare, and there are no reports of any injured children.

Police said around 7 p.m. that any threat was over.

After the shooting, officials actively combed the building to find anyone else who may have been sheltering in place.

Eric Udler, producer of the Super Pet Expo at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, said that there has been a significant increase in pets being adopted with so many people working from home.
