WASHINGTON — Commuters planning to take a trip Ocean City before the fall season may have longer commutes if they’re heading out on Fridays.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has closed the right lane on the eastbound U.S. 50/U.S. 13 (Salisbury Bypass) at Northwood Drive due to pavement damage.

MDOT SHA is urging travelers to take U.S. 50 Business through Salisbury for any Friday travels until this fall, when the repair is expected to finish.

“MDOT SHA is evaluating the extent of the damage and will begin the repair as soon as possible,” said MDOT SHA District 1 Engineer Jay Meredith. “This will create heavy eastbound delays, particularly on Friday afternoons during the summer travel season.”

The damage to the pavement, a gap in the road, was caused by a collapsed concrete culvert under the road. Crews will repair the culverts, fill the void and fix the concrete pavement.
