WASHINGTON — Metro will shut down parts of the Green, Red and Yellow lines over the next year as part of the next round of work zones.

Branch Avenue and Suitland stations will be closed Aug. 5-20. Other Green Line stations will be open.

Takoma Station will be closed Nov. 25 to Dec. 10. Metro plans regular service at most other Red Line stations.

Next year, Huntington and Eisenhower Avenue stations will be closed on the Yellow Line from May 12-27. Yellow Line trains will run to Franconia-Springfield instead.

These projects follow the end of what Metro called “SafeTrack,” which was 16 different long work zones over the past 13 months.

Metro still has many more areas that need repairs though, including these locations where trains switch from one track to another.

In addition to the long work zones, Metro will continue additional track work in the middle of the day, at night and on weekends. Metro hopes keeping the system closed for even more hours each week could help provide extra time for preventive maintenance. Crews do not always use all of the time they have available today.
