In final speech as first lady, Obama reflects on ‘the power of hope’

WASHINGTON — In her final speech as first lady, a reflective Michelle Obama praised our nation’s educators and encouraged America’s youth to prepare for adding their “voice to the national conversation.”

During a White House event Friday honoring the 2016 school counselor of the year, Terri Tchorzynski, she told attendees to remember “the power of hope” when meeting adversity.

“The belief that something better is always possible if you’re willing to work for it and fight for it — it is our fundamental belief in the power of hope that has allowed us to rise above the voices of doubt and division, of anger and fear, that we have faced in our own lives and in the life of this country,” she said.
