WASHINGTON — The Loudoun County School Board has delayed a vote on whether to adopt a policy that would provide new protections against harassment and discrimination for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students and staff.

The issue has been put on hold until board members can get more legal advice. No new date for a vote has been set.

About 30 people got up to speak about the proposal during the public comment portion of Tuesday night’s board meeting.

Most who chose to speak were in favor of the new policy, including members of the LGBT community and parents of transgender students.

A few people spoke out against the proposal because they said they worry about what their kids might be exposed to, such as in school bathrooms and locker rooms.
