WASHINGTON — All your friends are dead. At least according to Facebook.

On Friday afternoon, befuddled Facebook users logged in only to find their pages had been “memorialized,” as though they were no longer living.

Even Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s page was hit. A small graphic of a blue daisy and the words, “We hope people who love Mark will find comfort in the things others share to remember and celebrate his life,” was perched at the top his Facebook page.

In an emailed statement, a Facebook spokesperson described the postings as a “terrible error” and said that it has been fixed:

“For a brief period today, a message meant for memorialized profiles was mistakenly posted to other accounts. This was a terrible error that we have now fixed. We are very sorry that this happened and we worked as quickly as possible to fix it.”
