Wine of the Week: Pour with Her, sip with Him

WASHINGTON – Looking for a wine to pair with the election results? How about considering opening one of these for celebration … or sorrows.

The dictionary defines “ball buster” as either a “woman who challenges the virility and dominance of a man,” or a “a tough disciplinarian or taskmaster.” So why not open a bottle of 2013 Tait The Ball Buster Proprietary Red from Australia.

This blend of 75 percent shiraz, 13 percent merlot, 12 percent cabernet sauvignon opens to lovely notes of cassis, bay leaves, red plums and black cherries with pencil lead, cloves and baking spice accents. The palate has lovely grainy tannins, nice freshness and a long finish. Offering a lot of character at a very modest price. $18

Of course The Donald has his own wine, so why bother opening anything other than the 2012 Trump New World Red from Virginia. It’s rich and complex, just like Donald! It has a full-body that comes from mature fruit. The palate is luscious, round and silky, with well-developed flavors of toasted oak, currant, and black cherry. $30

Wine of the Week: Old friends, new vintages

It’s like visiting an old friend: reliable, fun to spend time with and always gone too soon.
