WASHINGTON — The deciding game of the 2016 World Series is set to be the most expensive Game 7 in the sport’s history.

Immediately following the Cubs’ win over the Indians in Game 6, the average price paid for Game 7 tickets on the resale market topped $2,900, according to the ticket search engine TicketIQ. Sellers were asking an average of $4,700 per ticket. The least expensive ticket being offered cost nearly $1,800.

Prices began spiking after the Cubs jumped out to an early lead on Tuesday, and rose more than 50 percent over the course of the night.

In World Series games tracked by TicketIQ over the past seven years, no contest even comes close to this Game 7. Game 1 between the Giants and Rangers in the 2010 World Series was the second-priciest contest recorded, with an average ticket resale price of about $1,200.
