WASHINGTON — A woman was killed Saturday in Northeast D.C. after a car crossed over the median and crashed into two other cars, police said. Four cars total were involved in a crash on Eastern Avenue near Division Avenue. D.C. police told NBC Washington that the striking vehicle was speeding southbound on Eastern Avenue when it struck a SUV traveling northbound head-on, and then rear-ended a car. The woman who was killed had been driving the rear-ended car, police said. They said she had been trapped and had to be extricated.

The driver of the striking vehicle got out of the car and fled to the nearby woods. Officers tracked him down, and he was arrested and charged with leaving after colliding, with more charges likely, NBC Washington reports.  D.C. Fire and EMS said two people were trapped, and first responders performed CPR on at least one person on the scene. Five people, including one child, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said. They said another child was treated at the scene of the crash.
