Man shot at Prince George’s Co. mall; police seek suspect

WASHINGTON — A man was shot in the parking garage at a Prince George’s County mall Tuesday afternoon, and police are searching for the gunman.

The shooting happened around noon in a parking garage behind the Burlington Coat Factory at the Shops at Iverson, located at 3737 Branch Ave. in Temple Hills, Maryland. One man shot another man, and the suspect fled the scene, police said.

The victim’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, police added.

The shooting, which police said does not appear to be random, prompted lockdowns at nearby schools. Hillcrest Heights Elementary School and Jessie B. Mason Regional School were on lockdown “out of an abundance of caution,” and the lockdown was lifted around 2 p.m.

Police are searching for the gunman. A suspect description has not yet been released.

The shopping center was formerly known as Iverson Mall.
