RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The federal government has awarded Virginia $57 million in grant money to help improve services for crime victims.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe said the grant was $6.6 million more than the state received last year.

McAuliffe said the federal funds be coupled with state funds to provide training and other help to various victim and witness programs, as well as help fund sexual assault crisis centers, child abuse treatment programs around the state.

Money from the federal Victims of Crime Act funds comes from criminal fines and other sources and is not collected through tax revenue.
