Weekend forecast: Prepare for severe weather Sunday

WASHINGTON — A strong cold front will spark some storms throughout the day Sunday. These storms have the potential to be strong to severe at times, bringing damaging winds, hail and heavy downpours.

So plan ahead now if you have outdoor plans on Sunday.

Anticipate heavy rain on Sunday at times that could escalate flooding concerns.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the region under an “enhanced” risk for severe thunderstorms on Sunday (see gallery photos). Sunday will have rains with storms moving in during the afternoon, but plan for a wet and warm day across the region.

By late Sunday night, the threat will die off. The cold front will take most of the humidity with it, making for terrific conditions for next week! Stay with StormTeam 4 and WTOP this weekend for updates on the forecast. Sunday could prove to be a very busy weather day for StormTeam4.
