WASHINGTON — A crash involving five vehicles, including a Metrobus, forced the blocking of several lanes of the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway for about an hour Tuesday morning.

The crash happened on the Inner Loop just before Georgia Avenue shortly after 6 a.m. At one point, the crash was creating a zigzag situation: Only the right lane gets by the accident, but shortly after the crash scene, drivers have to head to the left. All lanes were reopened shortly before 7 a.m.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer says that a Metrobus was involved, adding that there were injuries; an EMS crew is evaluating the injured.

Shortly thereafter, there was another crash, on the Outer Loop before Connecticut Avenue, most likely caused by people looking at the Inner Loop accident, says Mary DePompa in the WTOP Traffic Center.

That crash has since been cleared, but delays on the Beltway and the roads that feed into it have persisted all morning,
