WASHINGTON — An 8-year-old victim’s testimony against his summer camp counselor led to the man’s  conviction of sexual abuse in Fauquier County, Va., on Thursday.

Michael Sanders-Price Jr. of Laurel, Maryland was found guilty of aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties by a person in a custodial relationship with the victim.

The county commonwealth’s attorney says the child’s testimony was critical because without it, the charges would have been dismissed, reports FauquierNow.com.

The abuse happened in July 2015 at Camp Moss Hollow in Markham, Virginia, which is in Fauquier County. The camp is operated by Family Matters of Greater Washington, a non-profit that offers summer camp to underprivileged children. The 8-year-old victim resides in the District of Columbia.

The jury recommended a prison sentence of six years. Formal sentencing for Sanders-Price is set for July 25.
