Plan: Arlington Car2Go users can pick up, drop off cars in District — and vice versa

WASHINGTON — For the first time, Car2Go users will be able to pick one of the tiny blue and white Smart cars in Arlington and end their trip in D.C. or vice versa.

The Arlington County Board approved the change Saturday in an effort to boost the use of the vehicles. Car2Go users can take one-way trips like a taxi, and leave the car parked in most legal spaces.

Until now, cars picked up in Arlington could only be left in Arlington, and cars picked up in D.C. could only be left there.

Documents supporting the change say it will give Car2Go, a subsidiary of Daimler, an incentive to put more cars out in the area, while also making the service more useful for people heading in or out of D.C.

Car2Go has not announced when the change will kick in.

It’s hard to shake up the jam-packed SUV market, but Hyundai managed to do so with the Palisade, as an extreme value play. It seats up to eight, can be equipped with almost every luxury touch and competes with SUVs costing thousands (or tens of thousands) more.
