WASHINGTON – The man who jumped a curb and plowed into several people outside a D.C. nightclub has pleaded guilty in the case.

On Wednesday, Malik Lloyd — a 25-year-old D.C. resident — pleaded guilty to charges of felony assault, destruction of property and driving under the influence after he drove his car into D.C.’s Barcode on New Year’s Day, which seriously injured three people.

On Jan. 1, 2016, at about 1:30 a.m., Lloyd was driving his Chrysler 200 on 17th Street NW when he hit a Honda CRV. After the crash, Lloyd drove away, made a turn and drove up onto the sidewalk in front of the nightclub, located at 1101 17th St. NW.

Lloyd hit a tree box, a tree and several pedestrians before striking a light pole. At least 13 people were injured in the collision — three of them seriously.

Lloyd told police he had only had two glasses of champagne that night, but later admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana. Lloyd’s blood alcohol content was .20 – beyond D.C.’s legal limit of .08.

Lloyd is scheduled to be sentenced May 25.
