Power isn’t everything.
Consistently viewed as the most powerful country, the U.S. is ranked the No. 4 Best Country globally. But according to its regional neighbors, it drops to No. 7, its lowest rank among all regions.
Perhaps Uncle Sam could serve to be a little more polite, or emotional.
Canada takes the No. 1 spot, according to people in the Americas, who also ranked Latin American nations more than five places higher on average compared to global perceptions.

This is according to data from the 2016 Best Countries rankings, a characterization of 60 countries based on survey of more than 16,000 people from four regions. More than 4,000 people were surveyed in the Americas.
Chile is a favorite of the region, rising 14 places from No. 43 to No. 29, according to people from the Americas. But like the U.S., perceptions of Brazil are not as favorable in the region as they are globally. Instead, European nations — notably Sweden, Germany and the U.K. — rise to the top. Australia rounds out the top five.
The Americas’ Top 10 Favorite Countries
Here are the top 10 Best Countries, according to people in the Americas. More than 4,000 people in the region – and more than 16,000 people globally – were surveyed for the 2016 U.S. News Best Countries ranking.
No. 10: The Netherlands
The Netherlands ranks No. 10 overall, according to regional perceptions in the Americas. This is one spot worse than its global rank.
No. 9: New Zealand
New Zealand ranks No. 9 overall, according to regional perceptions in the Americas. This is two spots better than its global rank.
No. 8: France
France ranks No. 8 overall, according to regional perceptions in the Americas. This is the same as its global rank.
No. 7: United States
The U.S. ranks No. 7 overall, according to regional perceptions in the Americas. This is three spots worse than its global rank.
No. 6: Japan
Japan ranks No. 6 overall, according to regional perceptions in the Americas. This is one spot better than its global rank.
No. 5: Australia
Australia ranks No. 5 overall, according to regional perceptions in the Americas. This is one spot better than its global rank.
No. 4: United Kingdom
The U.K. ranks No. 4 overall, according to regional perceptions in the Americas. This is one spot worse than its global rank.
No. 3: Germany
Germany ranks No. 3 overall, according to regional perceptions in the Americas. This is two spots worse than its global rank.
No. 2: Sweden
Sweden ranks No. 2 overall, according to regional perceptions in the Americas. This is three spots better than its global rank.
No. 1: Canada
Canada ranks No. 1 overall, according to regional perceptions in the Americas. This is one spot better than its global rank.
