Those in Asia don’t quite love thy neighbors.
Consistent with global perceptions, people in Asia view Germany as the Best Country overall. No Asian nations rank in the top five.
This is according to data from the 2016 Best Countries rankings, a characterization of 60 countries based on survey of more than 16,000 people from four regions. More than 4,500 people were surveyed in Asia.
German President Joachim Gauck denounced China’s communist government in a recent visit to a university in Shanghai. But China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Hua Chunying, encouraged partnership between the two nations in a press conference, saying “mutual respect and mutual trust” between the regional trade giants would benefit broader relationships between Asia and Europe. China was Germany’s largest import partner in 2015.
Asia ranked it’s largest nation No. 15 overall. At No. 6, Singapore could be considered Asia’s darling. Compared to global perceptions, the country jumped nine places.
The United States, ranked No. 4 globally, is viewed more favorably in Asia than in any other region. It moves up to No. 2 overall. Rounding out the top five are the U.K. at No. 3, Canada at No. 4 and Australia at No. 5.
Here are the top 10 Best Countries, according to people in Asia. More than 4,500 people in Asia – and more than 16,000 people globally – were surveyed for the 2016 Best Countries ranking.
No. 10: New Zealand
New Zealand ranks No. 10 overall, according to regional perceptions in Asia. This is one spot better than its global rank.
No. 9: Sweden
Sweden ranks No. 9 overall, according to regional perceptions in Asia. This is four spots worse than its global rank.
No. 8: Japan
Japan ranks No. 8 overall, according to regional perceptions in Asia. This is one spot worse than its global rank.
No. 7: France
France ranks No. 7 overall, according to regional perceptions in Asia. This is one spot better than its global rank.
No. 6: Singapore
Singapore ranks No. 6 overall, according to regional perceptions in Asia. This is nine spots better than its global rank.
No. 5: Australia
Australia ranks No. 5 overall, according to regional perceptions in Asia. This is one spot better than its global rank.
No. 4: Canada
Canada ranks No. 4 overall, according to regional perceptions in Asia. This is two spots worse than its global rank.
No. 3: United Kingdom
The U.K. ranks No. 3 overall, according to regional perceptions in Asia. This is the same as its global rank.
No. 2: United States
The U.S. ranks No. 2 overall, according to regional perceptions in Asia. This is two spots better than its global rank.
No. 1: Germany
Germany ranks No. 1 overall, according to regional perceptions in Asia. This is the same as its global rank.
