Applegate Chicken Nuggets recalled for possible contamination

WASHINGTON — Perdue Foods LLC is recalling about 4,500 pounds of Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets that could be contaminated with extraneous plastic materials, according to the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The chicken nuggets were produced on Sept. 28, 2015 and were shipped to retail distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York and Texas.

According to the USDA, the problem was discovered after complaints of “small, solid, clear plastic inside the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets.” At this time, there are no confirmed reports of adverse reactions linked to consuming the products.

The USDA says consumers who have purchased the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets should not consume them, but should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

The 8-ounce boxed packages are marked with a “best before” date of Sept. 27, 2016.
