WASHINGTON — Metro’s progression to paperlessness takes another step later this week, as the old-style paper fare cards will no longer be accepted starting Sunday.

Metro says the paper fare cards and Metrocheks, which it stopped selling in January, will no longer be accepted at the faregates starting Sunday, March 6 — only SmarTrip cards will be accepted.

Metro started phasing out paper fare card sales last October; if you still have one, you can transfer its value to a SmartTrip card through June 30 at the brown vending machines at Metro stations, or at any Metro sales office.
