WASHINGTON — A man has died after he was struck by an SUV on southbound Interstate 270 Sunday.

The incident occurred south of the Germantown Road exit at around 7 p.m., according to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer.

The man has been identified by Maryland State Police as Nicolas A. Rodriguez-Sibrian of Montgomery Village, Maryland. Piringer previously described the man’s injuries as “life-threatening.”

Maryland State Police say Rodriguez-Sibrian was struck by a Subaru Outback after running across the roadway. The driver of the vehicle was not was not under the influence of alcohol or narcotics and was operating the vehicle properly.

Rodriguez-Sibrian was wearing all dark clothing when he was stuck, possibly making it difficult for the driver to see him. Sibrian did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol.

The incident caused major delays since some lanes on the interstate were blocked, due to the emergency response. As of 8:50 p.m., all lanes had reopened. The incident is still under investigation.

About a year ago, a man was struck and killed by a truck on southbound I-270, between Father Hurley Boulevard and Germantown Road.
