Water main break repair could impact Veirs Mill Road traffic through evening

WASHINGTON — A water main break is expected to cause traffic issues for drivers headed to Rockville from the Wheaton area through the Friday evening commute.

A water main break happened on Veirs Mill Road and impacted traffic beginning in the morning.

Through the morning, only one of three lanes of westbound Veirs Mill Road was open for traffic squeezing through after Connecticut Avenue after a 67-year-old main started leaking Thursday afternoon and got worse after midnight.

Crews from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission were able to shut down the main Friday afternoon.  The repairs are expected to last through the evening rush and could be longer, says Luis Maya with WSSC.

Twenty-three customers are without water while the repairs are being made.
