WASHINGTON — For months, WTOP has been getting emails complaining about problems with the Washington Gas website. One reads in part, “Their eService website has been down for 2 months due to an upgrade problem, and they are currently not processing automatic payments or sending out eBills.” But now the company has posted an update offering solutions to some of the problems, as well as an apology.

“We remain focused on resolving technical issues causing log on and transaction delays on our eService portal,” writes Consumer Services Division Head Tanya Hudson in an update posted on WashingtonGas.com. “We apologize for the inconvenience these technical issues have caused.”

The notice tells customers logging on to the new eService portal for the first time to click on “forgot password” and reset it. It also tells people they can pay as unregistered users by clicking on “pay your bill” below. It goes on to offer ways customers can pay via phone and says there are no transaction fees for payments made this way. The update says that late fees will be waived for customer payments delayed by the implementation of the new portal.

“Our goal is to provide the best possible online experience,” writes Hudson, “and we regret that our most recent efforts have fallen short.”
