‘X-File’ streaking across Northern Va. sky may have been a ‘fireball’

WASHINGTON — With the X-Files making a reappearance on television screens this week, maybe it’s not surprising that an unidentified flying object was seen streaking across the sky above the Washington, D.C. region Saturday.

But this one may be easily explained, according according to NBC Washington. But it’s always fun to speculate.

Although there has been no official word on what it was, there appears to be some consensus around the theory that it was a “fireball,” or a meteor flying close to the earth’s atmosphere and reaching a specific brightness. Hundreds have been spotted and reported to the American Meteor Society across the northeast, particularly in Maryland and Pennsylvania. This video was taken by Alexander Salvador and shared with Storm Team 4 meteorologists.
