Blood drive in Officer Leotta’s name set for Friday

WASHINGTON — The Montgomery County police are continuing to honor the memory of Officer Noah Leotta with a blood drive on Friday.

Leotta was killed by a suspected drunk driver during a traffic stop last month.

For days, Montgomery County police searched for the suspect. After he was arrested, it turned out he had been arrested on charges of drunk driving twice before, and Chief Tom Manger said the driver had been smoking marijuana and drinking for hours before the crash.

Manger, county officials and state lawmakers in Annapolis have since demanded stricter laws on drinking and driving.

The blood drive in his memory will be held on Friday at the Montgomery County Public Safety Headquarters, on Edison Park Drive in Gaithersburg, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The police say the Red Cross can’t accept walk-ins.
