Fire destroys Fort Washington house

WASHINGTON — A family is without a home after a fire swept through a residence in Fort Washington, Maryland, on Sunday night.

The fire, which caused $500,000 in damage, occurred at around 9:15 p.m. at a single-family house in the 10900 block of Mariner Drive, just off the Potomac River, according to Prince George’s County Fire and Rescue spokesman Mark Brady.

Gusty winds hampered efforts to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.

While it’s unclear what started the blaze, Brady said the fire originated in the attic and roof.

Brady said the family has been displaced.
