WOLFSBURG, Germany (AP) – Bundesliga runner-up Wolfsburg is inviting about 1,200 migrants to its opening Champions League game against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday.

The club said Friday it is making the gesture “to offer them a nice evening of top-class international football.”

Wolfsburg is also donating “1 euro from every game-ticket sold to refugee projects in the region.”

The Champions League invite is the latest initiative from Wolfsburg to help migrants. The club has been inviting 800 migrants to home games in the Bundesliga, organized training sessions with people who have fled their countries, and it invited migrants’ children onto the field with players for the last game of last season.

“Donations are regularly made by Wolfsburg to (migrant) reception facilities,” the club said. “The Green-Whites also support local collection efforts and are partners of the Integration Prize of Wolfsburg City, which is increasingly coming into focus through its work for refugees.”
