WASHINGTON — Kraft Heinz Company is voluntarily recalling Kraft Singles due to a choking hazard caused by faulty packing on some of the slices, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Friday.

A thin strip on the the packaging film of the individually wrapped slices can stick to the cheese after the wrapper has been removed, which creates the risk.

The FDA said the recall applies to 3- and 4-pound sizes of Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized prepared cheese product with expiration dates between Dec. 29, 2015 and Jan. 14, 2016 and a manufacturing code of S54 or S55.

There have been 10 consumer complaints  about the packaging, including three reports of consumers choking. Approximately 36,000 cases of the recalled product were shipped by Kraft Heinz to retailers in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman, according to the FDA.
