Today’s the day to wing it — National Chicken Wing Day arrives

WASHINGTON — You probably don’t need an excuse to eat chicken wings, but regardless — today’s the day.

July 29 is National Chicken Wing Day, and several places across the area are offering deals:

  • Spectators at the chicken-wing-eating contest at the Georgetown Safeway (185 Wisconsin Ave. NW) will get free wings after the champion is crowned. The contest starts at 12:30 p.m.
  • Glory Days Grill, which has locations in Reston, Centreville, Culpeper and Fairfax in Virginia and Ellicott City, Frederick, Glen Burnie and Towson in Maryland, offers a half-dozen wings of any style for $5.
  • All participating Hooters locations are offering all-you-can-eat wings for $12.99 (boneless) and $14.99 (bone-in).
