Va. man drives truck off parking garage deck

WASHINGTON — An 85-year-old man walked away from a crash Thursday after he drove his truck off the second story of a Leesburg, Virginia, parking garage, police say.

Leesburg police say Rattan J. Bhatia, of Hillsboro, Virginia, was speeding through the town’s parking deck on West Market Street. His 1994 Ford Ranger truck hit a curb, crashed through a metal barricade and then the brick facade of the garage. The truck landed upright on two unoccupied benches in a court yard area below.

Bhatia was charged with reckless driving.

He suffered minor injuries and was treated on site. He was alone in the truck, police say.

WTOP’s Max Smith contributed to this report.
