WASHINGTON — In a purely subjective blind taste test, water from Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission has been tapped as the best tasting in the region.

The judges for the competition were people attending a joint meeting of the Chesapeake Water Environment Association and Chesapeake American Water Works Association.

Water from seven water filtration plants was evaluated on water appearance, odor, flavor, mouth feel and aftertaste. The participating water filtration plants included Baltimore, Rockville, Carroll County, Artesian Water Company and WSSC.

The water from WSSC’s Patuxent Water Filtration Plant in Laurel, Maryland took the top spot.

“We realize that taste is a subjective thing,” said Jerry N. Johnson, WSSC general manager and CEO, in a news release.

“But it’s an important quality in the tap water that we deliver every day. And it’s important to realize that along with quality and taste, tap water is still among the best values out there.”
