Pedestrian killed by tractor-trailer in Woodbridge

WASHINGTON — A man is dead after he was struck by a tractor-trailer while crossing U.S. 1/Jefferson Davis Highway at the Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge, Virginia Friday morning.

Police say Noe Zarte Mares, 44, of Woodbridge was within a crosswalk at the time, but the signal on the crosswalk was not activated. The traffic light turned from red to green when he was in the crosswalk.

Police say it does not speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the 4:15 a.m. crash.

The 51-year-old driver of the 2005 Freightliner was not injured.

The crash is the third fatal crash in the county this year.
