Md. man charged with killing toddler he was watching

WASHINGTON — A man has been charged with killing the toddler son of his girlfriend in Lanham, Maryland.

Prince George’s County police say on April 9 that Joshua Riley, 29, of Lanham, was watching 23-month-old Anthony Winfrey, of Lanham, at the house of Winfrey’s mother, with whom Riley was in a romantic relationship.

When the child’s mother came home from work, police say she found Anthony unresponsive. He died April 15.

The medical examiner ruled that the boy’s death a homicide and that he died from blunt-force injuries. Riley is charged with first- and second-degree murder and other charges and is being held without bond.
