Shell employee injured in Silver Spring robbery

WASHINGTON — Montgomery County Police are searching for a suspect after a Shell employee suffered a head wound during a Silver Spring, Maryland, robbery Friday morning. Police initially said the clerk was shot, but the preliminary investigation reveals the suspect entered the Shell and produced a handgun.  During the course of the robbery, the suspect struck the victim on the head with the handgun. The worker is expected to survive. Police say the robbery at a Shell station near University Boulevard and U.S. 29, where an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen, occurred as one clerk was coming to work and another leaving. It happened around 6:30 a.m. The injured clerk went to a 7-Eleven across University Boulevard for help. Surveillance footage shows the suspect running toward Colesville Road. Police describe the suspect as white or Hispanic, about 5-foot-8, wearing a black jacket and black pants. During the robbery, his face was partially covered. His age is uncertain.
