ROCKVILLE, Md. – A man accused of knowingly exposing women to HIV accepted a plea deal in Montgomery County Circuit Court Tuesday.

According to prosecutors, Daniel Cleaves had unprotected sex with two separate women last year.  In both instances, Cleaves met them at a bar in downtown Bethesda.  He never told them he was HIV positive.

“This was a course of conduct that placed peoples’ lives at risk,” says Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy.

The victims are continuing to undergo testing to see if they have the virus.

“We still don’t know where these women stand in the long term for their personal health,” McCarthy says.

Cleaves pleaded guilty to two counts of reckless endangerment.

“He feels very guilty about it and he’s determined never to do it again,” says Cleaves’ defense attorney Andrew Jezic.

Cleaves will face up to 18 months in jail when he is sentenced later this month.
