Possible human remains found in Fairfax County

WASHINGTON — Fairfax County police say a man found what looks like human remains while walking his dog in a Franconia neighborhood Feb. 12. The discovery comes less than a week after human remains were discovered a few miles away.

On Thursday afternoon, the man walking behind a row of town homes in the  6700 block of Zohara Court made the discovery and called police.

“He took a close look at the bones and he felt based on his knowledge and background they were likely human,” says Lucy Caldwell with Fairfax County Police.

Caldwell says when the call came in detectives were struck by how similar it was to a call just a few days back.

Late Sunday afternoon, detectives responded to a report of what turned out to be human remains off a Stream Valley Park park trail.

The medical examiner is working to determine when both individuals died and their identities. However, Caldwell says, it does not appear the cases are linked.

Anyone with information should call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131 or Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477.

Tips can also be sent by text to CRIMES/274637 using “TIP187” plus a message.
