Jones with 23, Chattanooga beats Wofford 56-46

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Casey Jones scored 23 points to help Chattanooga knock off Southern League leader Wofford, 56-46 on Thursday night.

Chattanooga (17-9, 10-3 Southern Conference) has won eight of its last nine games and pulled within a game of Wofford (20-6, 11-2), which snapped a seven-game winning streak.

Jones added eight rebounds and shot 10 of 14 from the field, finishing one point shy of his career best. Duke Ethridge had nine points and 12 rebounds, and Greg Pryor chipped in nine points with three steals.

The Mocs opened the second half on a 7-0 surge to stretch their lead to 26-18, and led the rest of the way. Wofford pulled within 44-41 with 3:38 left but did not get closer.

Karl Cochran scored 13 points and Justin Gordon 12 to lead for Wofford.

University and state leaders celebrated the opening of the full-sized turf football field Wednesday as work begins on other pieces of the project, such as the football team’s new locker room and new medical research and athletic treatment facilities that are set to include a significant focus on concussions and other brain injuries often associated with football.
