Crowd expected for Md. paramedic’s funeral

WASHINGTON – A large crowd is expected Sunday at Marriotts Ridge High School in Howard County for a funeral for beloved paramedic Erik Steciak. Steciak, 29, was killed while responding to a car accident off Patterson Mill Road in  Bel Air Jan 6. He was a volunteer captain at the West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, and a paid paramedic at the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Department. Separate viewings were held Saturday at station houses for both companies.

A community-wide outpouring is expected Sunday, with some related road closures along Routes 32, 99 and 144 expected. The service is at 1 p.m.   The event will be broadcast live online.

Ellicott City flood alert sounds, Howard County works to reduce chronic devastation

For the first time, early warning sirens sounded in historic Ellicott City on Monday evening, triggered by a flash flood warning from the National Weather Service. Despite almost two inches of rain in a one hour period, no serious damage was sustained in Maryland's flood-prone tourist destination, which suffered devastating floods in 2016 and 2018.
