WASHINGTON — Many parents were shocked around the holidays when their kids opened a Play-Doh set with a plastic toy that resembled a part of the male anatomy. Now the parent company is vowing to replace the toy. Many took to Play-Doh’s Facebook page to complain that a toy in Play-Doh’s Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain set — called the “2-piece extruder” — looked like a penis. Play-Doh apologized on Facebook and Hasbro promised to replace the toy. “We have heard some consumer feedback about the extruder tool in the Play-Doh Cake Mountain playset and are in the process of updating all future Play-Doh products with a different tool. Should any consumer want a replacement extruder for this item, they can contact Hasbro’s Customer Service Department at 800-327-8264,” says Play-Doh’s Facebook page. The part of the set allows kids to create and decorate Play-Doh cakes. The Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain Playset is for kids three and up starts at more than $14 at stores such as Walmart.

Many parents expressed differing views on Facebook. Erin Rivers say her kids enjoyed the toy and didn’t finding anything dirty about it. “No Christmas ruined here- my children didn’t think anything about it. It was my (and many of my facebook friends’ minds) that thought it looked dirty!! Still allowed my children to play with it after I took some pics,” Rivers wrote. Jordon Hiller called for more common sense. “A child will not notice this, it’s only weird when parents go crazy,” Hiller wrote on Facebook. Follow @WTOP on Twitter and WTOP on Facebook.
