CORRECTION: The D.C. police on Dec. 29 said that they misidentified the suspect who was killed in the Christmas Eve shooting. He has been identified as Gregory Marcus Gray, 33, of no fixed address.

EARLIER: WASHINGTON —  Standing around a makeshift memorial, more than a dozen people gathered to remember a man who was killed on Christmas Eve.

Raymond Robinson, 29,  was suspected of robbery on Dec. 24 and was being chased by police when he ran into a dead-end, turned and shot at the officers pursuing him, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

People gathered on Friday to remember Robinson.

Princess Black, of Southeast, says she doesn’t trust the police department and called the officer’s actions excessive. “They should have attempted to disarm him, not kill him,” she said.

Not everyone pointed fingers at police.

“You don’t want to say he was to blame, you don’t want to say the police is to blame,” said Treona Kelty of Southeast, who wants police to answer more question surrounding the shooting.

Another attendee,  Aaron Goggans of Petworth, wants to see police do more to build trust in the community, “So that when somebody sees them … their first reaction isn’t ‘I’m gonna die so i’ll shoot back,'” he said.

The police department is still investigating the shooting.
