Md. county has 2nd apparent homicide in 3 days

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police on Wednesday were investigating the second homicide in three days in rural Frederick County, both involving women’s bodies being found outdoors about 10 miles apart.

The cases don’t appear to be related, said Frederick County State’s Attorney Charlie Smith, who is involved in both investigations.

The body of Malicia Smith, 20, of Hagerstown, was found early Wednesday along eastbound U.S. 40, several miles west of Frederick.

Lillie Morris, 67, was found Monday afternoon in the front yard of her home near Burkittsville. On Wednesday afternoon, troopers charged Morris’ 19-year-old granddaughter with fatally stabbing her.

Police haven’t described Smith’s injuries. Sgt. Marc Black said investigators are awaiting autopsy results.

He said Smith’s body was spotted along the roadside by passing motorists who called 911.
