Man barricaded inside Gaithersburg home

UPDATE 10:54 p.m. 12/21/2014: The police say the man has given himself up, and area streets are being reopened.

EARLIER: WASHINGTON — Police say a man has barricaded himself inside a home in Gaithersburg. Capt. Paul Starks, of the Montgomery County police, says they got a call from a woman about a domestic threat at about 7:15 p.m. She was no longer in the home, on the unit block of Maryland Avenue, but asked the police to check on her husband’s welfare. When they got there, Starks says, the man refused to come out and speak with police. There are reports that the man is armed and that shots have been fired, but Starks says he can’t confirm that. He also can’t say what exactly the man wants. Starks says the police have negotiators there and are going to continue to try to maintain contact with the man. We’ll bring more details as we get them.
