WASHINGTON — The University of Virginia fraternity at the
center of the Rolling Stone controversy released a statement Friday afternoon
rebutting the claims of a gang rape by members of the Phi Kappa Psi
fraternity.

The fraternity provided details that called into question the woman’s comments
as reported by Rolling Stone.

The managing editor of Rolling Stone also released a statement Friday saying there are now
discrepancies in the woman’s account, and that the magazine now regrets the
decision to not contact the alleged attackers.

“In the face of new information, there now appear to be discrepancies in
Jackie’s account, and we have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was
misplaced.”

Capt. Gary Pleasants, with the Charlottesville Police Department, released a
statement on Friday saying, “Our purpose is to find the truth in any matter
and
that’s what we are looking for here. These articles do not change our focus
moving forward.”
